On Carols by Candlelight, Bill Ives leads Oxford's famed Choir of Magdalen College in a selection of choral favorites for Advent and Christmas. The music on this recording ranges from quiet reflection and anticipation to the excitement and celebration of the birth of Jesus and the coming of the Wise Men. In existence in since 1480, the Choir of Magdalen College is one of the oldest choirs in England. This is the choir's fifth recording for harmonia mundi. Their Orlando Gibbons disc with Fretwork was nominated for a GRAMMYÆ Award.
