Hugo Wolf
The Complete Songs, Vol.3

Stone Records is delighted to announce the third volume of its highly acclaimed complete edition of the songs of Hugo Wolf (1860-1903); this latest disc comprises all 46 songs of his Italian songbook.
Written in frenzied bouts of composition, these songs show Wolf at his most quixotically quirky, ranging in emotion from comic to divinely beautiful. The series, part of the Oxford Lieder Live range, is a collaboration with the famous Oxford Lieder Festival, the UK's largest art song festival, which attracts audiences and artists from around the world.
This CD series will be the first complete edition of Wolf Lieder, a considerable number of which remain unrecorded. Starting in 2010, the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth, Oxford Lieder is promoting a series of concerts encompassing every song, all of which will be recorded and released on the Stone Records label.
The two singers on this disc are internationally-renowned Lieder singers and, together with the festival's artistic director at the piano, provide world-class interpretations of these exceptional songs. They were recorded in the Holywell Music Room, Europe's oldest purpose-built concert hall, by the multi-award-winning production team of Mark Brown and Julian Millard. In addition, the disc's booklet features translations and detailed notes by Richard Stokes, a leading authority on the interpretation of Lieder.
"The audiences were treated to a series of outstanding and revelatory performances by all concerned. However Sholto Kynoch, who accompanied each of the singers with such empathy and consideration, deserves to be singled out for his remarkable contribution." Seen and Heard
"This recording shows what can be done with enterprise, enthusiasm, dedication, and bold artistic vision. An inspiration for all!... If tonight's performance is anything to go by, the CD will be worth getting" Classical Iconoclast
