French music for viol and harpsichord: a noble, graceful, intimate, and courtly entertainment for the few, for the elite in a totalitarian system. The flourishing of the arts at the Palace of Versailles during the reign of the Sun King Louis XIV had a significant impact beyond the court, on Paris and on France as a whole.
Holger Faust Peters and Irén Lill have worked together intensively since 2004 and have thus far played numerous programmes of music from the baroque period. The viola da gamba music of Marais, Forqueray, J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach, Telemann, Abel and others has featured prominently.
The duo has performed numerous concerts all over Germany. The critics have especially praised the finely synchronised playing and the high degree of virtuosity, which is paired with delicate sound and richly nuanced dynamics.
