Here is a CD of real rarity. Johann Friederich Fasch was a Baroque composer who loved multiple instrument concerti, and this 2-CD set shows them off. On here are the some of the most interesting groupings from a concerto for trumpet, 2 oboes, strings, and continuo, to a concerto for 3 trumpets, timpaani, 3 oboes and bassoon. Not forgotten on this set is the recording of the virtually un-performed Missa Brevis, which from this account should be more prominent in the choral repertoire. The Virtuosi Saxoniae perform wonderfully, as does their trumpet-playing conductor, Ludwig Guttler.
