2011 two CD collection from one of Cuba's finest musicians. The depth of his mesmerizing guitar work and the perfect diction and quavering character in his voice, ensured that listeners felt they'd known him all their lives. Like his colleague Ibrahim Ferrer, Compay was born in the Caribbean-influenced region of Santiago de Cuba, specifically Siboney, a town immortalized in Ernesto Lecuona's brooding late-'20s hit of the same name. He achieved phenomenal international success through the Ry Cooder produced and Grammy award winning Buena Vista Social Club recordings, a project in which his style and panache played a vital part.
